Soul of kakheti (wine tour)
Kakheti region in eastern Georgia is the birthplace of vine and wine; ever since ancient times it has been the main winemaking province of the country. In the lowlands there are picturesques villages named after wines made from the grapes of local vineyards. In the region there are a lot of historical and cultural sites: monasteries, churches and 300 years old wine cellars.
During this tour you will have an opportunity of testing natural well known Georgian wines from Kakhetian region with their world know ancient, unique flavor and aroma – Rkatsiteli, Saperavi, etc. You will be introduced to family’s old traditional wine making technology. You can view ancient traditional Georgian baking technology and taste delicious natural flavor of newly baked dedas puri with famous local sheep cheese guda from the mountains of Tushetia. Depending on the season a visitor can take part in cooking different Georgian sweets - tatara, churchkhela, nazukhi, you can also taste different tasty fruits ( apples, figs, peach, pear, damson, marled, cherry, etc. directly from the garden. You can taste home made Georgian traditional cuisine, and national dishes: Khachapuri, barbeque, khashlama, chakapuli, etc.
Tour starts with visiting Gurjaanis kvelatsminda - two dombed church of 8th century, is a wonderful example of a transitional period in the Georgian culture. This 8th century church of Dormition of the Virgin is unique in the way that it is the only two-domed temple in Georgia. The encircling path lies on the second floor. One of the multiple traditions relates that as one of the miracles by Virgin Mary, the cathedral had milk overflowing from its walls. This is why it was frequently visited by nursing and dried up mothers. The pilgrims usually returned home cured. Nowadays it is a site for a fully functioning monastery.
drive to Cinandali - nobel Al. Chavchavadze`s residence with unique wine collection and beautiful English park located in the village well-known for its vine species; wine tasting;
then drive to city Telavi and visit Marani where you will have winery discovery tour Approximately 60-80 minutes in length, the renowned winery tour follows the route of the grape from the vineyard to the cellar to the finished wine. Visitors will attend working activity inside the winery, fermentation and barrel aging areas. The tour will be followed by seated tasting of 4 different wines. You can see:open and closed type wine cellars, vodka making “Zavodi”, tasting the wine( opening the pitcher in case of desire), traditional kakhetian feast with “Tamada”-toast-maker and singers of Georgian folk songs.
